Mary Price

1922 — January 1, 2021

Price, Mary

Mary (Murray) Price was born on the Isle of Skye, Scotland

on April 25, 1922, and died in Nepean, Ontario, January 22, 2021.

Surrounded by family, Mum passed away peacefully at the age of 98. She loved people and her long and healthy life was richly filled with the love and joy of family and friends, and happy travels the world over. During the war she met and married our Dad, Malcolm, who serving overseas with the Canadian army, and in 1946 she sailed to Canada as a war bride. Sadly, our Dad predeceased our Mum in 1994. She leaves behind her children, Iona McKay (Doug), Norman Price (Janet), Sheila Price, her dearly loved grandson Andrew McKay (Marlene) and Janet’s children Liam, Logan, Taraleigh and Krysten.

Mum adored babies, dogs of all kinds, sewing, knitting and baking, and her motto was “Cookie Power”, for she knew almost anything could be accomplished by producing and sharing her home baking! Oh my, the cookies, the scones, the bread and the lemon squares we have been fortunate enough to enjoy over the years!! In Scotland she leaves many dear family members and friends, all of whom she visited as often as she possibly could. They, too, travelled in this direction many times, and joyous reunions filled with laughter, song and happy reminiscing brought Mum so much happiness. She claimed that her 80th birthday celebration was a highlight in her life, attended as it was by family and friends from all over Scotland and North America. She loved Gaelic music, and during the last few weeks of her life that music was softly playing next ot her at all times.

Mum spent her remaining days at the Viva Barrhaven Retirement Community where she was dearly loved and cared for. We cannot speak highly enough of the amazing staff, all of whom became her friends, treating her with such love and compassion, watching over her and giving her cause to be so happy. From the bottom of our hearts we sincerely thank you all. You are so very special.

We also wish to thank our dear neighbours and friends for their attentive care and support. To our family and friends in distant places, your telephone calls and e-mail messages of love and concern have been so important and have helped us hugely. Sone day you will all receive much-deserved hugs. When it is possible to gather once again we will hold a Mary Tea Party in our Mother’s honour and share with you samples of her favourite recipes, in return for which you will be required to share with us your favourite “Mary story”, and there are so many! Let us gather in joy and laughter and remember the good times as we celebrate her life.

As Mum requested, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be returned to the Isle of Skye when travel abroad is once again possible.

In lieu of flowers, should you wish to make a donation to the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice in Mum’s memory, it would be greatly appreciated by the family.
