Mary Ellen Kennedy (Keays)

Died peacefully in hospital on Wednesday September 4th, 2024 at the age of 83. 

Beloved wife of the late Douglas Allen Kennedy, dear mother of Maria (Brian) and grandmother to Matthew. Mary Ellen was the daughter of E. Irene (Beckstead) and Jack Keays, sister-in-law of Maureen Carrier (Paul) and aunt of Allison and Brad. 

Mary Ellen was a Registered Microbiologist and Biosafety Professional with many years spent in the Government with multiple publications to her name as well as a Biosafety Consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO) before and after retirement. Her love for breeding/showing her thoroughbred horses, dogs and Guinea hens was well known and brought her the greatest joy. She was an advocate for Longrun Thoroughbred Retirement Society as well as the Eastern Canadian Thoroughbred Association of which she was the president for many years. The horse world has lost a great soul and will be missed.

Family and friends will be welcomed at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes (3440 Richmond Road) for visitation Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00am followed my a memorial service at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Longrun Thoroughbred Retirement Society or Ottawa Humane Society.
