Marjory Chisnall

September 2, 1916 — November 18, 2015

Marjory Helen (Marlene) Chisnall

nee Ackerman

Peacefully at Peter D. Clark Long Term Care Home on November 18, 2015, in her 100th year. Marlene was the beloved wife of the late John Chisnall (2007), very loving mother of Wendy (Bill Kennedy) and the late Peter (1966), and cherished Gramma Marjy of Susi and Jeff. Marlene was born to Swiss parents, Helene and Paul Ackerman, in Toronto in 1916 and was raised in Montreal. She spent many childhood summers vacationing in Switzerland with family. An accomplished pianist, Marlene’s teacher wanted her to become a concert pianist at the age of 16, but her parents insisted she continue her education. She attended McGill University and obtained her Associate in Music. In addition, she received her Licentiate in Piano Performance from the Royal Schools of Music, London. Marlene met John in Georgeville, Quebec, when they were both 18 and they subsequently married at the age of 24. Marlene taught piano from home for over 20 years while she devoted most of her time to raising her two children. Sadly, she and John lost their only son, Peter, in a car accident when he was just 22. The couple moved to Ottawa at the age of 84 to be closer to their family. They spent all their summers in retirement at their beloved Chalet Bernau in Georgeville. Always the consummate hostess, Marlene loved entertaining, and she was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. She was a sweet and loving soul, who was always there to help and loved by all whom she met. Marlene passed on her love of music and sense of compassion to both her children. She spent her last several years at Lynwood Park Lodge where she met her dear friend, Dennis. Many thanks to all her caregivers in recent years and especially to the amazing staff at Peter D. Clark Long Term Care Home, who were able to keep her happy and comfortable over the last 6 months. Also, heartfelt thanks to her special caregiver, Elizabeth, whom she considered a close friend. She will be forever loved and missed by her family. How lucky we were to know her so long! There will be no funeral service. Private interment, alongside her husband, son, and parents, will be held in the Spring at a peaceful, rural cemetery in Georgeville, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
