Marjolaine David

Marjolaine David (née Bélanger), daughter of the late Charles-Eugène Bélanger and Blanche Bélanger (Bernier), died peacefully at Carleton Lodge in Ottawa on October 2, 2023 at the age of 94.

She is survived by her four children, Claudette (Keith Marshall), Guy (Karen Morrell), Michel (Lindee David), and Marc (Diane Lamoureux) as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Marjolaine was married for 72 years to the love of her life, Roland David (deceased April 7, 2023). She was also pre-deceased by her grandson Christian David in 2021.

Marjolaine spent her early married life as a loving wife and mother and led the family in the pursuit of education, music, skiing, boating and the love of outings. Whatever the family’s activity, Mom was our biggest cheerleader.

As her children aged, Marjolaine resumed her academic studies, enrolled in University and graduated with honours. Over a period of 30+ years she pursued a career in teaching in Cornwall, ON, Beloeil/Mont Saint-Hilaire and Shawinigan QC. She was respected and loved by her students and fellow teachers alike.

Marjolaine was always a bit of a rebel and was a pioneer in organizing national and international student excursions in the early 70’s.

Once retired she continued to live a busy life travelling the world with Roland, including ski trips to the French Alps with family, and supporting, encouraging, and guiding her three generations of children and grandchildren in their various endeavors.

Marjolaine has left behind a wonderful legacy of family fellowship that will continue to permeate throughout her extended family into the future.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff of Carleton Lodge. A funeral Mass and reception will be held on May 4, 2024 at 2pm at Saint- Hilaire Parish in Mont Saint Hilaire QC.

Marjolaine David (née Bélanger), fille de feu Charles-Eugène Bélanger et feu Blanche Bélanger (Bernier), est décédée le 2 octobre 2023 au Foyer Carleton Lodge à Ottawa. Elle s’est éteinte paisiblement, à l’âge de 94 ans.

Elle laisse dans le deuil ses quatre enfants – Claudette (Keith Marshall), Guy (Karen Morrell), Michel (Lindee David) et Marc (Diane Lamoureux) –, 12 petits-enfants et 11 arrière-petits-enfants.

Marjolaine a passé 72 années de mariage avec l’amour de sa vie, Roland David (décédé le 7 avril 2023). Elle rejoint Roland ainsi que leur petit-fils Christian David, décédé en 2021.

Épouse et mère aimante, Marjolaine a consacré ses premières années de mariage à sa famille. Elle accompagnait les enfants dans leurs études et organisait une foule d’activités de loisirs : musique, ski, navigation, sorties diverses. Quelle que soit l’activité, maman était aux premières loges pour nous encourager.

Quand ses enfants ont grandi, Marjolaine est retournée aux études. Elle s’est inscrite à l’université, où elle a obtenu un diplôme avec distinction, après quoi elle a travaillé pendant plus de 30 ans comme enseignante à Cornwall (Ontario) et à Belœil/Mont-Saint-Hilaire et Shawinigan (Québec). Tant ses élèves que ses collègues l’aimaient et lui vouaient un grand respect.

Marjolaine a toujours eu un petit côté rebelle. Elle a d’ailleurs été l’une des premières enseignantes à organiser des excursions au Canada et à l’étranger, au début des années 1970.

À la retraite, elle s’est tenue bien occupée : elle voyageait avec Roland partout dans le monde (notamment dans les Alpes françaises, où elle a fait des voyages de ski en famille) et elle épaulait ses trois générations de descendants dans leurs divers projets.

Marjolaine laisse derrière elle une famille très soudée qui, grâce à elle, conservera des liens forts encore longtemps.

La famille tient à remercier du fond du cœur le formidable personnel du Foyer Carleton Lodge pour sa grande bienveillance. Une messe funéraire, suivie d’une réception, se tiendra le 4 mai 2024 à 14h00 à l'église Saint-Hilaire à Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
