Marie Flora Green (nee Skanes) was born in St. John’s, NL. She grew up there and on nearby Bell Island, one of ten siblings. She attended Memorial University, becoming a teacher. She earned an English degree later in life through the University of Waterloo. She and her husband of 66 years, Ralph, lived in Halifax, Montreal, Deep River, and Pinawa, before retiring in Ottawa. Marie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph in 2019, and is survived by younger sister Gwen Solodzuk, children Linda, Ward, Anne (husband Jim), Bo (Robert) and grandchildren Sarah (husband Anthony), Isaac, and Alyssa, who will miss her dearly.

Marie was a lover of language and an avid reader who took pride in her literary studies. She and Ralph were competitive bridge players, something she greatly missed in the last few years.
