Buchanan, Margaret Jane
December 28, 1927 - April 4, 2015
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our mother early on Easter Saturday morning. "Margie B" was predeceased by Allan Raymond Buchanan (2005). While she moved forward without her precious husband of 53 years, in her strong, determined manner, the light in her happy life was considerably dimmer.
Mom leaves four children and ten grandchildren to mourn her loss: daughter Trudy Wagner (husband Mike, children Robyn and Eric); daughter Tina Fantham (husband Rick, children Ryan, Steven and Mallory); son Peter Buchanan (wife Anne, children Maxwell and Nevada); and daughter Brenda Buchanan (husband Paul, children Mark, David and Kevin). Proud of her solid roots, Mom was the last surviving member of Mable and Fred Proctor's farm family whose eight children were raised on Yonge Street in Newmarket, Ontario.
A vivacious, caring woman, and nurse by profession, Mom used her many talents to enrich the lives of others. She loved nothing more than to lend a hand. For 40 years she was a weekly volunteer at the Bells Corners United Church Seniors Club. She knit tiny hats for babies born at the Queensway Carleton Hospital; sewed head-covers for the Canadian Cancer Society; made jams for countless bazaars; acted as a taxi service for fellow seniors who could no longer drive to appointments; and stitched quilts for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She baked the best apple pie ever.
A memorial service to celebrate the wonderful life of Margie B will be held on Wednesday, April 8th in the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30pm, followed by a service in the chapel at 2:30 pm and then a reception.
On her behalf, as well as our own, our family thanks the exceptional staff on the Memory Care floor at Carlingwood Retirement Community. A warm, compassionate, professional team of nurses, PSW's, and activity coordinators ensured that Mom's last six months were as happy as possible when one lives in the fog of Alzheimer's disease.
In lieu of flowers, support to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (Ontario), or the Alzheimer's Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be greatly appreciated.
