Margaret Ogilvie (Mom) passed in comfort and peacefully on September 3 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. She was 96 and in good health until recently. Mom was born on July 2, 1923 in Pleasant Valley, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. She married Robert Denzell Ogilvie in March 1944, and they remained together for 70 years until his death in May 2013.

Mom and Dad had 5 children Robert Murray (Caledon), Wanda Claire (Ottawa), William Ivan (California), Heather Elizabeth (Charles) (Ottawa), and Charles Andrew Warren (Ottawa). She also has three grandchildren Marie Claire (Larose) Valiquette, Sylvia Charles and Robert Anthes Ogilvie, as well as two great-grandchildren Patrick and George Valiquette.

Margaret was born and raised on a farm in Westville, Nova Scotia and met her future husband while he was stationed in New Glasgow. Denzell was transferred to the airforce base in Tofino, B.C. in 1944, and Margaret spent time with him there in a cabin he built on Long Beach. Following the war, they lived briefly in Ville St. Laurent and then built a house in Rosemere, Quebec where they raised their five children. In 1968 they moved to Ottawa, and then in 2010 they settled into Robertson House Retirement Home.

Mom was a voracious reader and loved poetry. A prolific letter writer, she kept in touch with family and far flung friends through letters and continued this practice until her last few months. She never got her driver’s license, choosing instead to embarrass her children by bicycling everywhere she went. After Dad retired, they spent many years flying all over North America in their Mooney. It was something they loved doing together.
