Margaret Deboer

d. August 17, 2013

Passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at home with her family, by her side. Donna was 55 years old. Cherished wife of Nick. Loving mother to Andrea and Eric. Sister of Elizabeth Algar (Mark), Ruth Somers and Robert LeRoy (Donna). Special aunt to 14 nieces and nephews. Donna is predeceased by her mother and father, Dorothy and Cecil LeRoy

Donna was born in Grimsby, Ontario in February 1958, the youngest daughter of Cecil and Dorothy (Cox) LeRoy. At a young age, she moved to Bells Corners, Nepean where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Bell High School in 1977 and Sheridan College in 1979. After marrying and starting a family, Donna and Nick built a home in Ramsay Township (now Mississippi Mills). The Cox family's love of music got Donna involved in singing in choirs throughout her life, starting in a children's choir at the Fourth Avenue Baptist Church. In her twenties she joined the Ottawa chapter of the Sweet Adelaide's, singing with the chorus and in a quartet. Donna was a strong voice in the church choir at Almonte United with her beloved mother Dorothy for many years and in the Folk Choir, and in the choir at Guthrie United in Clayton. She rounded out her enjoyment of singing with the Wolf Grove Singers community choir.

Donna took great pride in the guidance she provided to her daughter, as Andrea blossomed into an accomplished piano player and a confident young music teacher.

Donna also took pride in seeing her son Eric, turn into a fine, caring, responsible young man, confident he will succeed in whatever challenges he might pursue or experience in his life.

Donna thoroughly enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her children while homeschooling and seeing them develop into responsible young adults. Donna was also active in the community, from running a play school group, starting and co-ordinating a local Food Co-op, leading many 4-H clubs, to serving on the Lanark 4-H executive. This was all extra to her main career as Domestic Engineer, where she successfully ran the household and home schooled the children. She still found time for her passion to do sewing, make crafts, plan several family vacations in great detail and plan family reunions.

The family would like to thank all the support staff, nurses and doctors at the many hospitals that were involved in Donna's journey and a special thanks to the nurses, Jen and Sarah, of St. Elizabeth. Friends may call at the Almonte Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte, on Friday, August, 23, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm.
