CARSON, Margaret Kathleen (née Hicks)
Peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Carson. Dear mother of Jane (Pierre Paulin) and Patrick. Loving grandmother of Amélie Paulin. Cherished sister of Anne Walton (Brian) of Vancouver. Predeceased by her parents Annie Florence and Thomas James Hicks of North Gower, siblings Thelma Gordon, Tom, Kenny and Mickey (Reginald), Bill and Harold. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends in the community. Margaret was greatly appreciated in her role as Executive Assistant in the office of the Commissioner of Social Services for the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, a late-in-life return to work. In the 1940s and ‘50s, she had enjoyed a very successful career, first as a teacher with Willis Business College, then with the Documentary Film Library at the National Film Board and finally with the Canadian Welfare Council before retiring to raise her children. Admired for her intelligence and wit, she was an avid reader, a political “junkie” and a talented bridge player. The family wishes to thank the staff of Granite Ridge Care Community for the excellent, attentive care Mum received for the last five years. Friends may attend a visitation at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars, on Saturday, April 27th from 10:30 a.m. until time of the memorial service in the chapel at 12 p.m. followed by a reception. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice. Tributes, condolences may be made through www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com.
