We sadly announce the passing of our mother, Margaret Joan Barron, peacefully at home on Saturday April 2nd, with her family present. Joan fought her last illness with dignity and courage. Joan was born in Elgin, Scotland and educated at Elgin Academy. After graduation she moved to Aberdeen to study radiography. While there, she met her future husband, Philip and there followed a happy and successful marriage of 59 years. They were blessed with two uniquely successful children, Philip and Tania, and their spouses, Karen and Steve, and ultimately four similarly unique grandchildren: Philip James, Grace, Owen and Fiona. Joan had many interests, the major of which were: her family, her home, her garden, and tennis. On immigrating to Canada in 1967, she was highly active in the young and growing community of Beaverbrook. Joan was a Girl Guide leader for many years and was instrumental in the foundation of the March Tennis Club. A natural athlete, she played tennis competitively locally and then socially until well into her seventies. We wish to acknowledge the support of her physicians, friends, and the Champlain Palliative Care Program. The funeral service will be a private family event conducted by the Rev. Cindy Casey whose support is gratefully acknowledged. A celebration of her life will follow at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd (between Bayshore and Baseline Road) on Wednesday, April 13th from 2:30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., all friends are welcome . A life well-lived she will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Flowers are welcomed.
