Mandy McCarthy

December 9, 1974 — June 30, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mandy McCarthy, beloved partner to Simon Brault.

Mandy was the beautiful daughter of Jean Gates McCarthy and John McCarthy, and loving sister to Sean (Lynda), Paul (Kristin), Peter (Rainu), Ian, and Bruce McCarthy. On the Brault side of the family, she was the cherished sister-in-law to Nadia (Steven).

She was also a caring aunt to Phillipe, Emilie, Declan, Liam, Devin, Roan, and the late Dylan McCarthy.

She is also survived by her longtime, loving companion Stinky the Cat!

Mandy was fiercely passionate about working collaboratively with Indigenous Peoples and communities to address important issues and advance reconciliation, something that followed her from her schooling all the way to her retirement. In this effort, Mandy worked in a number of Federal departments including Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada and Parks Canada. Mandy's dedication, compassion, and commitment have left an indelible mark on all who knew her and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in her footsteps.

When not working, Mandy was an avid traveller, whether it was backpacking around portions of Asia or travelling to various far-flung islands. These travels are reflected in the large number of masks from around the world that adorned her home. Many of the islands chosen for her travels were also determined by the number and variety of lizards that could be found there. In later years, she was particularly fond of Bonaire, where she would return numerous times to visit its myriad lizards (including her favourites: iguanas), though she was also quite fond of the native "squawky" parrots.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Montfort Hospital Emergency Department and the Intensive Care Unit staff for their professionalism, dedication and compassion during Mandy’s final hours.

Mandy was a uniquely wonderful person who will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Crohn's & Colitis Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
