Lysandros Orfanos

Lysandros Orfanos, age 92, passed away peacefully January 6, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born April 4, 1927 in Selassia, Greece to George and Angelica. When he immigrated to Canada, he married the love of his life, Martha, in June of 1958. Together they worked hard to create a good life and started a family of their own the following year when he became a proud father to his daughter, Angelica.

He treasured his family and embraced every moment with them. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories, teaching them about nature, cooking and talking about his native homeland and the wonderful places the world has to offer.  He was not just a grandfather to his grandchildren and little Papou to his great grandchildren, but he became a Papou to those who adored him like he was their own grandfather. His heart had love for everyone.

Lysandros is survived by his wife Martha, his daughter Angelica, son-in-law Nickolas, grandchildren John, Martha (and her husband Marc) and Alyssandra, great-grandchildren Nickolas and Tiago, as well as his brothers and sister, Perry, John, Steve, Toula and Niko. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. All of them he loved and touched deeply. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

A special and sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors of the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus for their kindness and support. We are humbled by the care and compassion shown to us by all of you. We will never forget everything you did for Lysandros.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 12, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13 at 11:00 am also at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
