Lorna Brisson

October 6, 1947 — February 16, 2021

On Tuesday, February 16 2021, Lorna Brisson passed away peacefully at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband Robert, her son Nicholas (Kate) and grandchildren Rian and Oscar. Predeceased by her mother Ethel McSheffrey (Munroe), father Harold McSheffrey and brother Robert McSheffrey. Loving sister of Dale (Edward), Gail (Allan), Ken (Ann), Karl (Muriel) and Roy (Joanne), and aunt to many.

Lorna was born in Maniwaki, Quebec, then moved to Ottawa to pursue a teaching career that spanned more than 40 years. Lorna was passionate about education and focused her time as a behaviour and special education teacher and an advocate for unique learners since she started teaching in 1964. She retired in 2005, but continued working as a behaviour consultant for many more years.

Lorna loved to travel and shared many fond memories of great adventures with her friends and family. She used these experiences to shape her day-to-day life and her ability to connect with people and make them feel special is something that came from these life-enriching trips.

Lorna’s beloved Ireland was the jewel of her experiences. Any chance she got to visit the Emerald Isle was a no-brainer. She and her travel buddies (the Lindas') enjoyed themselves over the years, through laughs, wine and more laughs.

Lorna was a no nonsense person who enjoyed the company of a select few, but would go to the end of the earth to help them, if needed. Her generosity and strong will were evident and will be missed. Her ability to treat her son’s friends as her own children and make them feel safe and cared for is a theme that has been shared over the past few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society or through fundraising efforts for the same cause at https://www.dryfeb.ca/users/nick-brisson .

A Celebration of Life will take place once it it safe to do so.
