Nesbitt, Lorena Bertha,
1934 -2016
Retired teacher- librarian, Ottawa Public School Board.
Lorena quietly left us on Saturday 24, September, 2016 while at Garden Terrace Nursing home in Kanata, Ontario. She was simply known by many at school as "Mrs. Nesbitt". A long time teacher-librarian; first taught in a one room school house , S.S. No. 3, in Dunrobin, Ontario, then Manor Park, Chrichton Street School , Viscount Alexander and then finally Mutchmor Public school. Her love of teaching and books allowed her to cross paths and touch the lives of many primary students and co-workers.
She was the beloved daughter of George Albert Wilson and Pearl Lavina Badham. Lorena was the loving, devoted wife of the late Russel Nesbitt. She is lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter Gail (Jim), her son Gordon (Maura) and cherished "Nanny Reanie" to Graham, Ben, Lorie, Terilyn, and Geordie. Dear sister of Orville (Theresa), Elmer (Rita), Edward (Doreen), and Bob (Barbara). Beloved sister-in-law of Harold Nesbitt (Stella), Earl (Ettie), Laura (Pat) Buck. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, and the extended family of Dale Wilson.
Lorena's hospitable and caring nature was ever present. Her friends, neighbours, and family were all grateful recipients of her generosity. There were countless people that Lorena happily would make a snack or a meal for, quite often in the wee hours of the morning… She always remembered your favourite food or beverage, and tried without fail to make sure that she had lots on hand-just in case.
She loved her church, gardens, books, family gatherings, special holidays, teaching school and Sunday school, painting, travelling, visiting (but only short visits), music, baking multiple chocolate cakes, and serving her grandchildren loads of baked chicken and mashed potatoes. She loved antiques, dishes, coin collecting, the Torbolton Historical Society, and caregiving for her own Mom and others in the community. Every kind gesture that Lorena made, reflected that she loved her family, her Grandkids, her friends and relatives, and of course her students.
We will all deeply miss her and we'll be eternally grateful for having her in our lives.
A special note of thanks goes out to the staff and support people at Garden Terrace for all of their loving care over the last five years.
