Lola died with peaceful resolve on August 31st, days after her beloved husband, Ed. She was encircled by her cherished children. Lola was a loyal partner of 65 years, a compassionate mother, generous grandmother and attentive friend.
Lola will be remembered forever by her devoted daughter, Laurie and loving sons, Michael and John. Also mourning her loss are four adored grandchildren: Elizabeth and Christopher Tucker, and Jonathan and Lucas Koensgen. She is deeply missed by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Doreen Mignault of Montreal, her son-in-law John Koensgen, and former daughter-in-law Rosemary Brown of Victoria.
Lola was born and raised in Montreal. She was distinguished by a strong aesthetic sense - a talent for oil painting and a flair for creating elegant clothes. She was a draftswoman at Dominion Engineering where she met Ed, a promising engineer. They formed a solid family life together, in Montreal, Toronto and Connecticut. In midlife Lola supported Ed in a Middle Eastern posting and enjoyed the excitement of international travel. The return to Ottawa brought reconnections with her children and the satisfactions of grandmotherhood.
Lola was a passionate reader. Long after failing vision made the printed page a challenge, she tracked world politics and cultural trends. She refined her wisdom, tempered her judgments and cultivated kindness until her final breath.
A combined memorial service for Ed and Lola will be held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd. at Roosevelt on Monday, September 16th with a visitation from noon until time of celebration service in the chapel at 2 p.m
