Peacefully passed away at home, in Bells Corners, Ontario on March 8, 2024 in her 93rd year.
She was the mother of Kenneth (Ken) (Stephanie Cummings), Elizabeth (Karl Cullen) and grandmother to her grandson Aidan. Lois will be greatly missed by her sister, Jean Read, sister-in-laws, Joan (Brown) (Lorne), Joan (Hartin) (Art) and brother-in-law Barrie Craig (Joan), also Massé sisters-in-law Frances (Fran), Jackie, Dorothy, and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was born in Westboro, Nepean on July 27, 1931 to parents Fred and Ethel (nee Bradley) Read. Predeceased by her parents, siblings Kenneth (Ken) (Connie Hart) and (Madeleine LeBrun) (Howard), Donald (infant), Lorne, Arthur (Art), and Joan.
Lois was raised in Westboro, went to Nepean High School, worked in Beamish's Department Store, Dept. Finance (Personnel), and Indian and Northern Affairs, prior to having her children, and then was a stay-at-home Mom. She then started working for her brother-in-law Ted Williamson Insurance Business and became an Insurance Broker, and continued working part-time until she was 85 when Ted passed away.
Lois was a long-time member of St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, and a long-standing member (64yrs) of OES (Order of the Eastern Star).
A special thanks for the exceptional care given over the last two years to her Doctors, Neskovic, McGuinty, Swami, and Jennings, the Nurses (especially Yan) and PSW support from St. Elizabeth and Bayshore Health Care.
A Celebration of her life will be held at Christ Church Bells Corners, 3861 Old Richmond Road, Nepean on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Aidan’s or Christ Church Bells Corners or the charity of your choice.
