SMYTH, LILIAS GREIG
(NEE SCOTT)
22 JULY 1927, AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND-14 JULY 2014, OTTAWA
At home, as she wished, in the loving embrace of her family. Diagnosed in 2011 with ovarian cancer, Lilias demonstrated courage and grace till the end. Beloved wife, partner, and best friend for 63 years of Bob (RCA ret'd). Much loved and loving mother of Heather, Susan, Jennifer, Scott and Judy (Giesler), and proud and devoted grandmother of Christina and Robin. Beloved sister of Marian Coles of Dartmouth, N.S. Lilias leaves many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada and overseas. Lilias lived in port cities in Scotland and England with her sister, mother Lilias (nee Murdoch) and father, Robert M. Scott, a naval architect. In 1942 Robert was seconded to Canada. The family reunited in Vancouver, in 1944, following a perilous crossing of the Atlantic. In 1946 the family was posted to Halifax, N.S. where, in 1951, Lilias met the love of her life, Bob (of Quebec City), at Dalhousie University. Following his return from Korea (1952-53) with I RCHA, Bob, Lilias and their expanding family enjoyed postings to the U.K. and within Canada. Upon his retirement from DND, and later NRC, Lilias was delighted to have Bob's company full time, enjoying the summer months in the North East of Scotland and adventures around the world and across North America. Lilias put family first, made every move an adventure, and every house a warm and welcoming home for family and friends. Lilias' spirit is now free to roam leaving friends and family with happy and loving memories of a sociable and fun-loving lady with smiling blue eyes. Lilias, Bob and the family are extremely grateful to all who helped Lilias through her illness, with particular thanks to Dr. Wylam Faught and RN Chantal at the Riverside Hospital, Dr. Belinda Barnes and her 8 th /7 th floor team at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, Social Worker Erin, the 8 th floor chemotherapy nurses, the staff of the Champlain CCAC, Carefor (special thanks to Nitha), the nurses of Paramed (especially Chantal), the staff of the Emergency Room at the General Campus and last, but far from least, Dr. Lisa A.
