Wytsma, Laurene
Peacefully on February 10, 2017 after 95 good years on this earth. Predeceased by Dick, her devoted husband of 60 years, beloved daughter Linda, and dear sister Edna Diehl. Survived by daughter Judy (Greg), son Rick (Brenda); grandchildren Rob, Scott (Jen), Julia, Sarah, Ali; great grandchildren Tucker, Makayla; and a large extended family in both Ontario and Alberta. Laurene’s life journey began in 1921 on a farm near Stratford, Ont., and led to her working at the Dept. of National Defence in Ottawa during WWII. There she met and married Dick, a Bell Canada engineer from Alberta. They went on to live in Montreal and Toronto before returning to Ottawa in 1978. Laurene’s life revolved around nurturing her family but she also enjoyed her flower gardens and travel. Her family wishes to thank Bess Sauve whose excellent care permitted Laurene to stay in her own home until the end, as well as the caring staff of Queensway Carlton Hospital (QCH) who made her last days as comfortable as possible. A memorial service will take place at Parkwood Presbyterian Church in Ottawa, 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, followed by a reception for family and friends at the church. If you wish, donations in memory of Laurene may be made to Parkwood Presbyterian, QCH Foundation or a charity of your choice.
