Larry A. Donnelly
After a life well lived and countless accomplishments, Laurence (Larry) Alphonsus Donnelly passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family.
He is predeceased by his parents, James Andrew and Rose Ann(nee Murray) Donnelly, brothers James, Hugh, Patrick, Liam, Tommy, and sisters Kathleen and Anne. He is forever loved and dearly missed by his wife, Betty (nee Fitzgerald), and by his children, Tom (Kyna Kodz), Erin (Barry Smith) and Tara, who was also his very best friend. Cherished “Da” to Meaghan, Liam and Declan Smith, Sam, Maggie and Coco Donnelly. He will be greatly missed by his family in Montreal, Toronto, Ireland and the United States, as well as his many friends and neighbours.
Larry, an avid soccer player and Gaelic footballer, immigrated from Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1951. He spent his first few years in Montreal, where he worked hard, played soccer and, most importantly, met the love of his life. Once married, Larry and Betty moved to Ottawa, where they created a beautiful family, established lifelong friendships, and maintained strong connections in their community and with family and friends abroad.
Larry was a proud Irishman of great integrity and respect. He was fiercely loyal and committed to his family and faith. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus and volunteered in the community. Larry never wavered from being an outstanding person who was incredibly thoughtful, caring and compassionate through his words and actions. He demonstrated great courage and intelligence in all that he did. Throughout his years, he was a strong advocate, gifted leader, and mentor to many. Everyone who met Larry gravitated toward his charm, kindness, and sense of humour. He was a consummate gentleman who always went to great lengths to lend a hand or help others. He lived life to the fullest and was loved by everyone he encountered.
Larry was his family`s greatest gift and remains in their hearts forever. Solas Mhic Dé ar a n-anam.
