Stewart, Kenneth Fenwick
Kenneth (Ken) Stewart of Ottawa-and formerly London, Kingston and Toronto, Ontario-passed away peacefully on June 19, 2018. Ken died as he lived: when he was good and ready. Despite living with Parkinson's Disease for more than three decades, Ken's love of family, Canadian history and rural traditions endured. Born in London, Ontario in 1941 to Verna Allyson (Walker) and Harvey Adam Stewart, Ken spent many enjoyable summers with his extended family in his much-beloved Huron County. He graduated from Queen's University with both a BA (Arts ‘65) and an MA (‘72) in Canadian History. He spent more than 30 years sharing his wit, eloquence and love of history with generations of high school students-first in Kingston, and then in Scarborough, Ontario. His love of and memory for even the most prosaic details of our nation's history remain unparalleled. Ken showed his affection and priorities through action. He spent many years working as a church warden and lay reader at St. Columba and All Hallows Anglican Church in Toronto. He was a skilled photographer, made truly exceptional maple syrup and could fell a tree within a centimeter of where he wanted it to land. Ken leaves behind his beloved wife Susan (Brown), his children Edward (Victoria), Christena (Daryl), and Sarah (Lance), and his grandsons Fionn, Malcolm and Sidney. He is survived by his cherished sisters Nancy and Mary (Ray), and sister-in-law Wendy, as well as his dear nieces and nephews and their children. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Perley-Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, and the dedicated nurses and doctors on the 5 th floor of the Ottawa Hospital-General Campus. The family's deep appreciation also goes to the Movement Disorders Clinics at the Toronto Western Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital-Civic Campus. Visitation will be held in Ottawa at the Westboro chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd (at Roosevelt Ave.) on Sunday, June 24 from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial service will take place on Monday, June 25 at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, Westboro at the corner of Churchill Ave. and Richmond Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Parkinson Canada, whose support for families living with Parkinson's disease has been invaluable.
