Millan, Kenneth George
Always in our Hearts
Ken Millan aged 87 passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) on April 24, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Kidney disease.
Ken was born on November 12, 1931 to Margaret (Peggy) and Harold Millan in Verdun, Quebec and is survived by his brother Harold (King) Millan. Ken was a loving husband to the late Gladys Millan (Davy), father to Kim, Keri (Ken Smith), Gary (Debbie Fitzgerald). A devoted grandfather to Alexandra (25), Kenzie (24), Taylin (21), Paige ( our precious angel), Sierra (26) , Dominique (24) , and Miranda (20) , and Ken always enjoyed the attention of his many grand pets!
After living in St. Bruno, Quebec, for many years, Ken left his job with CNR and moved the family to Nepean, Ontario after accepting a position with the Federal Government Department of Labour and then later commuted to Charlottetown PEI, with Veterans Affairs. After the passing of his beloved wife Gladys of 55 years married, Ken moved to Oakville, Ontario in 2011 to live with his daughter.
Ken loved his sports, he played and coached both football and hockey in his youth, then expanded this passion to include golf and curling; organizing annual bonspiels and tournaments for friends and family. Ken was also an active member of the Ottawa Nepean Sports Club believing that all youth deserve a chance to play sports.
Ken will be remembered by many for his friendly smile and twinkle in his eye. He was dedicated to his friends and would be there if they needed him. Ken was often the life of the party with his dry wit and sense of humour.
We are thankful to the physicians and nurses at the OTMH and the many staff at the Northridge Long Term Care Facility for the compassion and care given to our father. A special thanks to Diana for her exceptional comfort and care to our dad for the last seven years and to Bob for the many hours of companionship he shared with Ken these last six years.
In lieu of flowers the family are asking for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Acclaim Health – Dementia Center being built in Oakville.
