Peacefully at home on Saturday, February 25, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family and closest friends, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kelly Anne Torrance at the age of 49, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Kelly is the beloved mother of Jacob Torrance-Whitley, the cherished daughter of Jeanie and the late Thomas Torrance and the much loved sister of Patrick Torrance (Tania). She will be missed by her nephews Dylan Torrance (Arya), Ryan Torrance (Kat) and her niece Caitlin Torrance (Josue). She will forever be remembered by her step-children Simon McCully (Jaime), Rachel McCully (Daphnee), Andrew McCully (Amanda) and the late Joshua McCully.
After graduating from St. Pius X High School, Kelly went on to study at McGill University, where she graduated with honours. She began her career in publishing and later took on leadership roles in other organizations. In later years, she served as the Director of Human Resources at SHOEBOX, where she was proud to have helped an amazing group of people make a difference.
Kelly was an avid reader who loved music and art of all kinds. An extensive traveller, she appreciated beautiful places and the people who lived there. She had a natural ability to connect with people, and to help others connect. Her enthusiasm for life and learning extended far beyond her school years.
Kelly will always be remembered for her out-going and friendly nature, her kindness, and her infectious and endearing laugh. But what she will be most remembered for is her love for her family, her devotion to her friends and the strength and grace she displayed through the most challenging times in her life. While ALS took many things away from Kelly, it never extinguished the sparkle in her eyes, her feistiness, or her sense of humour.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the beautiful people who cared for Kelly and her family throughout the course of her illness: her PSWs especially Kelly, Kim and Elaine who became family to her, home nurse Chelsea, and clinic nurse Brenda.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at the Garden chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd) on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of life in the chapel at 2 p.m. A reception to follow.
Memorial donations to the ALS Society of Canada (https://als.ca/) or the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.
Share a story if you have one. She lived a great life that was enriched by many.
