Kadri Campbell (née Oolo)
1944-2018
Kadri passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 17, 2018 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital due to complications from lung cancer. Truth be told, a piece of her died three years ago with her husband Frederick. She was a fantastic mother to Roy (Karen Andrews) and Linda Campbell Rehmann (Richard), and a loving Grandma to Alex, Becca & Ben Campbell, Erin & Jack Rehmann, and Rachel Maloof & Alee Andrews. She was predeceased by her parents Tabita (d. 1991) and Aleksander (d. 1992) Oolo, and is survived by her sister Anu Branden (Bob).
Kadri had a long career in educational administration with both the Carleton and Ottawa Boards of Education as well as Algonquin College. She was very active in Munster while raising her children there, notably in the planning of Munster Elementary School. She cherished summers spent boating on the Big Rideau Lake. In retirement she loved to travel, garden, and play bridge, and was an active member of both the Ottawa Public Education Retirees' Association (OPERA) and the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), Nepean Chapter.
Although she did not speak often of her early life, it bears mention here. Kadri was born in Vienna, Austria in 1944 as her parents fled their native Estonia during World War II. After three years at a displaced persons camp in Ansbach, Germany, the family emigrated to Venezuela. At the age of 12, her parents sent her and her older sister to Edgehill School for Girls (now King's-Edgehill) in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Kadri stayed in Canada to attend King's College in Halifax at the age of 16, where she met Frederick. They were married three years later.
Her early life explains her zeal for living, her unplaceable accent, and her inimitable belief that anything is possible. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
