June Glen Armstrong
(née Taylor)
June 6th, 1934 – August 8th, 2018
Peacefully, in her retirement residence on Wednesday August 8, 2018 in her 85th year. Dear daughter of the late Mabel (née Glendenning) and the late B. Ernest Taylor. Dearly beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Armstrong. Dear mother of Steven. Predeceased by her brothers Ernest, Beverly and Kingsley, and sister Constance.
Born in Ottawa Ontario, June attended Lisgar Collegiate Institute and then Queen’s University in Kingston where she met her husband Bill. They settled in Ottawa where June held numerous positions at the Nepean Public Library and the Canada Council Art Bank.
An avid amateur artist, June was involved with many different forms of art including pottery, painting, glass batik, bonsai, gem polishing, sculpture, and mixed media. She took many art courses and entered several exhibitions, winning a prize for her mixed media piece about the FLQ crisis that took place in 1970.
June was also a great fan of the outdoors, especially going for hikes, spotting and identifying all types of wild flowers. June and Bill had a yearly tradition of celebrating their late October wedding anniversary in an often snowy Algonquin Park.
June also loved all furry animals, big and small. Chipmunks were her favourite, with dogs and cats coming in tied for second. In her later years, she loved being driven to the Bruce Pit dog park to watch all the dogs running about.
In tribute to June, a donation to either The Alzheimer Society of Canada (http://alzheimer.ca/) or The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (https://dementiahelp.ca/) would be appreciated.
