Parliament, John Bruce
"Moose"
1925-2017
World War II Veteran
Ontario Veterinary College 1952
On Saturday, July 8 2017, Dr. Bruce Parliament (DVM retired) passed away in hospital after a sudden illness at age 91. Bruce was raised on the family farm in Cannington, Ontario, and experienced a variety of occupations in his early years from tomato inspector in Prince Edward County, to serving with the RCAF during WWII in Summerside, PEI. After graduating from the University of Guelph, he had a long career as a veterinarian with United Breeders Inc., Eastern Breeders Inc., and finally Agriculture Canada. As a government specialist in artificial insemination (AI) and reproductive technologies for cattle, Bruce travelled the world (Norway, Finland, Cuba, the Soviet Union, Japan, Venezuela) to advance and improve the AI practices in those countries. Always one to offer a colourful story and a hearty laugh, Bruce enjoyed golfing and curling and the camaraderie that came with them. He is survived by his bride of 62 years, Helen, his four children Matthew (Rosemary Quirk), Marcia, Hugh (Lynn Landriau) and Andrea, his sister Enid (Tom Wetheral), and sisters-in-law Eleanor Parliament, Beatrice Parliament, Gladys Somerville (late Mel) and Teresa Somerville (late Roly). Bruce is predeceased by his parents, John and Annie, his brothers Ted, Ken (late Winifred) and Eric, and his sister Verla. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the compassionate care Bruce received from the EMS team and the doctors and nurses in emergency at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance of Bruce at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
