It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Capt(N) John Percy Nash, CD on July 12, 2024, at age 94. John was born on July 19, 1929, in Charlottetown, PEI, the son of Fred and Constance (Whear) Nash.
John earned his BCom from Sir George Williams College (now Concordia University) and went on to have a celebrated naval career, rising to the rank of Captain, serving in Halifax, Victoria, and Ottawa, and on exchange in Hawaii.
He was also president of the Canadian Forces Exchange System (CANEX), consulted for the Department of National Defence's Accommodation Working Group, and served as president of the Naval Association of Canada and president for the federal branch of St. John Ambulance, where he received the Order of St. John (KSTG, 1996). A past president, John frequented the HMCS Bytown Naval Officer's Mess alongside the other “seagulls,” and could often be heard yelling at golfers on TV when he wasn’t golfing himself. He especially loved crossword puzzles, reading, talking politics, martinis (the gin martini is the only martini), and listening to Frank Sinatra.
John is survived by his daughter, Nikki (James Brown), granddaughter, Leigh (Andrew Faulkner), great-granddaughter, Martha, sister Rebecca (Nash) Stockhausen, and daughter-in-law, Cori. Predeceased by his parents, wife, Beverley Jean (Reed) Nash, partner, Eleanor (Booth) Gleeson, sons James Brock and John Reed, brother, Robert Nash and sister Barbara (Nash) Munro.
John’s wishes were to be cremated, and no service is planned at this time. Interment will take place in North Hatley, QC, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John Ambulance would be a fitting tribute.
