John Carl Havelock

John, cherished and devoted husband of Rick Mannell, passed away peacefully after a short & unexpected illness, Thursday 22 June 2023 at the age of 62.  John spent the final 11 days of his life in the Intensive Care Unit on the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital where he had worked for 36 years prior to his retirement in 2020.  Rick, & John's family, are grateful to, and deeply appreciative of, all of the exemplary medical, technical, and extraordinary nursing staff, who together worked so diligently & who cared for John up until the moment of his passing.    Preceded in death by his parents Victor and Georgena Havelock, John is survived by his husband Rick, his brother David Havelock (Heather), and his nephews Troy & Dylan Havelock - of both he was such a proud Uncle, his U.S. cousins Colleen Swain (Ken) and their children Spencer & MorganEve, and by a countless number of friends across Canada and in many parts of the eastern U.S.

John was a rare, kind, caring, and gentle soul who was always most happy when he was planning or carrying out some act of kindness small or large for the always expanding list of people in his life. He looked for the best in everyone he met, relentlessly spreading joy and good cheer to all around him.  He will be long remembered and sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Reception at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Road) on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
