JoAnne Dickinson ( Nee Godde)
June 17, 1949 – July 1, 2020
JoAnne Dickinson, Interior Designer and former Instructor of Design and Art History at Algonquin College, passed away peacefully on Canada Day in the Ottawa home that she loved. JoAnne grew up in Winnipeg with her sisters, Luise Avery, Leni Flamand and Diana Lafferty (deceased), proud daughters of German immigrant parents Joseph and Frances Godde. She leaves family and her wide circle of friends with happy memories of a life lived and shared to the fullest, with a style and infectious enthusiasm that was uniquely JoAnne.
Undeterred by failing eyesight, JoAnne treated her blindness as a unique way to see and experience the world, continuing her activities as a water colour artist and sharing her love of art, music, theatre, festivals and dancing. Jo opened her heart and home to Family and to friends, old and new, offering wonderful home-cooked gourmet meals at her welcoming dining table and in the tranquility of her treasured garden. She maintained lifelong friendships with many of her fellow graduates from the University of Manitoba Department of Interior Design. She travelled widely maintaining contacts with relatives in Germany, with friends in England and Australia, and in Nice, where she spent many of her winters.
In true JoAnne fashion, she requested that her obituary be used to send a final message of love to those who have shared and enriched her life and who have been enriched in return.
As we remember JoAnne, picture her flying with the Angels and dancing with the stars.
In memoriam donations appreciated to Harmony House Ottawa or a charity of your choice.
