April 8, 1928 - June 20, 2017
(Marjorie) JOAN MOORS died peacefully in her 90 th year, with her family by her side, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on Tuesday June 20, 2017. Dearly beloved wife of Dr. David E. Moors and devoted Mother to six children, Jean-anne, Mark (Fara), Gordon (Trish), Rodney (Joy), James (Tina), Kara (John) and Grandmother to Danielle, Autumn, Kate, Kent, Richard, and Laura and Ava. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Dr. G.E. Herman deWitt and Mida (McCullough) deWitt, Joan was predeceased by her twin sister, Jean (Ann) Owen, and brother Ian deWitt. Joan raised her family in Bengough, Saskatchewan, Town of Mount Royal, Quebec, Vancouver, B.C. and settled in Ottawa in the late sixties. She loved and cared for her husband and family with all her heart, and rejoiced in all the good things that befell them. Joan was a vibrant and beautiful woman. She and her sister Jean, the "deWitt Twins," were Western Canada Pairs Skating Champions from 1947 - 49. As professionals, they were featured in the North American tours of the Barbara Ann Scott Skating Sensations and the Sonja Henie Ice Revue in the early fifties. In 2004, Joan and Jean were inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame. Joan was active and energetic, skating, swimming, and cross country skiing with friends and family. Golf was her favourite past time and she enjoyed playing at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club for many years. She was renowned and admired for her fashion flair and creative knitting designs. Joan travelled with David frequently and always looked forward to their winter vacations in the sun and by the sea. In 1989, Joan was unfortunately afflicted with the rare inflammatory disorder, Guillain-Barre syndrome. She never fully recovered; with her strong will and courageous spirit she fought the physical challenges of chronic debilitating nerve pain for almost 30 years.
Joan's last words to David and her children were "I love you so much." She will be deeply mourned and missed. Many thanks to Dr. Geiger, Dr. Scott, and the Geriatric and Palliative Care teams at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Special thank you to the Second Family Care (Shelley) and Joan's dedicated caregivers: Cassie, Cynthia, France, Jessica, Marianne, Moana, Norma, and Trish. A Memorial for Joan will be held at the
