Joan Elizabeth Caskie
(née Chapman)
Flying Officer- RCAF
Surrounded by her loving family Joan Caskie passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Born in Lacombe Alberta, July 7, 1930, Joan was the youngest child of Edmund Cleveland Chapman and Emily MacLeod. She was the last survivor of this family as she was predeceased by her parents and brothers Stewart, Edmund and Robert. Joan led a life of many adventures. She and a girlfriend hitchhiked across Canada and Europe in the 1950's. In 1952 she joined the RCAF as an airwoman and was commissioned from the ranks to flying officer. It was in the RCAF where she met her beloved husband, pilot, Robert Alan Caskie. They were wed on March 18, 1961 and left Canada for a posting in Ghana West Africa where their daughter Gwendolyn Ann was born in 1962. Back in Canada they welcomed daughter Elizabeth Irene in 1964 in Exeter, ON and son Glen James in Montreal 1968. Further postings took the family west and then back east to Ottawa where they settled. Joan was a kind and loving soul with a mischievous sense of humour and tremendous inner strength. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, granddaughter Annika Joan Caskie Kerr, son-in-law James Kerr, daughter-in-law Cathie (Malkin) Caskie, stepmother Elvera Jean (Reeves) Chapman and many relatives and friends. Respecting her wishes there will be no visitation or service. Donations to a charity of your choice are welcome.
