Brownrigg Barrow – Joan (née Ford)

April 12, 1930 - October 15, 2014

Joan Ford was born April 12, 1930 at Rockcliffe Air Base to Rowland and Jane (Sloan) Ford, the fifth of six children. The family spent summers in Venosta, Quebec on the Sloan Farm. This cultivated in Mom a love of the country that stood her in good stead when she married Stephen Brownrigg (b.1924 - d.1979) in 1956 and eventually moved to a log house in Manotick. Mom was dearly loved by their children Jane, Dennis, Helen and Joe, son-in-law Tony, daughter-in-law Kim, and grandchildren Sara (Matt), Emily, Bridget, Logan, Riley, Kirk and Jack and great grandson Nolan. She was anxiously awaiting her great grand-daughter's birth.

Left to mourn are her sisters Elaine (predeceased by Dave and Bob), Polly (Fred) and brother Bob (Norah) and brother-in-law Joe. The Fords spent many happy days at Pop Ford's cottage in Wakefield, Quebec where all enjoyed the freshly baked bread from Orme's Bakery and swimming in the frigid Gatineau River. Predeceased by sisters Marjorie (Joe) and Fran (predeceased Leo) and second husband Bob Barrow. Dearly remembered by Bob's family: Kathy (Steve), Ron (Ellen), Scott (Della), Carol (Dave), David and their families. Fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Evelyn and Ann and 65 nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the Heart Institute for the many years of excellent care and to the friends at Prince of Wales Manor where Mom lived and played over the last 2 years.

Mom enjoyed a long and successful career in Public Works and made many friends there. She was a community volunteer extraordinaire for many organizations and was very proud of being awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal, The Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, and Life Membership for Outstanding Service to the Royal Canadian Legion. She loved writing children's stories, researching family genealogy, and was a devoted Irish Catholic. One of her favourite songs was "My Mother's Pearls". She delighted in all of the grandchildren and her legacy of love and laughter will live on in the clan. She had blue blue eyes and a big big smile. Go with God sweet Mom.

Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Visitation, South Gloucester, Highway 31on Wednesday, October 22 nd at 10:30 a.m, Interment in parish cemetery. All are welcome to a reception to follow at the church hall. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
