Jennifer Batson Legg

December 19, 1939 — December 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce Jennie’s peaceful passing after a short battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer) – five days short of her 85th birthday. She was born in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, England in 1939; the daughter of an artillery gunner father (John) who was in General Montgomery’s 8th Army in Africa during WWII and her mother (Winnifred) a caring, community involved, clothing shop owner. Jennie and a few friends arrived in Montreal, Canada by ship in 1960, where she met her lifelong partner Ted.

In addition to being a very community-minded, loving, and caring person herself, Jennie was a voracious book reader, having read over 400 books during the COVID pandemic, an excellent seamstress making outfits for her grand- and great-grandchildren, and an avid gardener having been awarded the 2006 Ladybug Award for the best organic garden in Ottawa.

Jennie goes to join her pre-deceased parents and youngest son Michael (affectionately known as Muncle (Uncle Mike)). She will be truly and sorely missed by her husband of 63 years, her sister Jane (Conrad), her son David (Barb), her four Grandchildren Kellianne (Storm), Chris (Heidi), Tressa (Trevor), Chad (Lyndsi), her four Great Grandchildren Logan, Nova, Scottlyn and Sully, and by the rest of the family, neighbours and longtime acquaintances.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Oncological and Neurological wards of the Civic Hospital and all those same personnel of the Almonte General Hospital. We are so grateful for all the loving and caring help that they gave to Jennie.

The family also requests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances of Jennie can be made in the form of contributions to the Almonte General Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
