RMC3387 Jeffery Scott Upton Col(ret)
Son of the late Elsie Maud Jeffery and the late Thomas Frederick Upton, and devoted husband of the late Thérèse Dumas, died June 9, 2016 at Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa. Survived by his beloved caregiver and close friend Mary Sheffield, loving daughter Sue and husband Tim Tickner (Hamilton, Ontario), and brother Jim Upton (Montreal). Born 26 March 1932 in Galt, Ontario where he received his elementary and secondary schooling. Entered Royal Roads 1951, graduated RMC 1955 and commissioned into PPCLI. BA Queens University. Served in Germany, Calgary, Edmonton, Wainwright. Transferred to the Canadian Intelligence Corps 1958 and served in Quebec City, Ottawa, Borden, UK (MOD), St. Hubert Quebec, Toronto, Netherlands (HQ, AFCENT) and Montreal. A former commandant of the Canadian Forces School of Intelligence and Security, and CF representative of the 76 Montreal Olympic games organizing committee intelligence group. In 1979 seconded to the Privy Council Office and appointed Sec. Intelligence Advisory Committee. Retired 1985. Lived for several years in Pendleton, Ontario and was a member of the Ottawa Diocese Residential School Settlement Commission, as well as a warden of St. Paul’s Church Fenaghvale. Hobbies included working with stained glass and the restoration of micro cars. Returned to the Ottawa area in 2012, after losing his sight. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care provided by staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 20 Young Rd., Kanata, on Tuesday, June 14th at 1 pm. Donations may be made to the CNIB, the Ottawa Mission, the RMC foundation, or a charity of your choice.
