Wood, Jean Ruth

Passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2022 aged 94 with her family watching over her. She was the cherished wife to David (predeceased) for more than 60 years, loving mother to Mark, Karen, Barb (Sandy) and grandmother to Kirsty and Finlay. Predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Elna, sister Patricia (Dana), brother Chip, and sister-in-law Dinah (Bob). Affectionately known as “Jeanie Baby”, she gave unconditional love to all around her. Her warmth was expressed in her incessant ability to listen well, her love of camping, her appreciation of a good book, and the endless stream of pets that she supported throughout her life. Born in Hartford Connecticut, Jean graduated from Bay Path with a qualification in secretarial skills and met David while living in Toronto. She was a consummate volunteer for not-for-profit agencies throughout Ontario and Quebec and was recognised as one of the first volunteers at QCH. She was forever active at the Unitarian Church particularly in Unitarian House. She was the centre of the universe for family life ensuring constant contact with parents, siblings and kids no matter where they were. Annual trips to Cape Cod, Arizona, or Florida, significant camping trips across North America and multiple cruises were recorded in countless journals abundant in anecdotes and treasured experiences. Her writing skills were demonstrated by the depth of her pen pal relationships spanning 50 years for which she was recognised. Her kind and gentle heart was adored by all. Special thanks to Joanne Duval for the love and support provided over these last months. The family would like to also recognise caregivers Betty, Sue, and Bass; nurse Tina Cuerrier, and the palliative care team. Visitation will take place on Thursday June 30, 2022 at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Baseline and Bayshore) at 11 am followed by a service at 1 pm in the chapel. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Burial to take place at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada (https://www.parkinson.ca/) would be greatly appreciated.
