Peacefully, with her family by her side, Laura Ethel Jean Marshall on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Predeceased by her parents Torrance and Leta (nee Brien) Robertson. Beloved wife of the late Walter Marshall. Proud and loving mother of John (Heather), Nancy (late Bruce) Valyear, Caroline (Pete) Devries and Brien (Celeste). Proud and loving Grandmother of Chris (Kelly) Marshall, Brien (Laura) Devries and Thomas and Glenys Marshall. Loving Grandma to Jason (Nicole) Valyear and Michelle (Craig) Parr. Loving Great-grandmother of Ryan and Colin Marshall and Amelia Devries. Loving Great Grandma to Brooke and Chloe Parr and Owen and Connor Valyear. Dear sister of Alex (late Muriel) Robertson and Joyce Kennedy. Predeceased by her sister Glad (late Peter) Atman. Sister-in-law of Bea Roe (late Bob) and predeceased by brother-in-law Stan Marshall (late Vony) and sister-in-law Irene (late Ross) Peebles. Jean will be missed by many nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be missed by her constant companions, her two Siamese cats Bing and Daisy. Jean was born in Dunsford, ON and spent a wonderful childhood growing up on Aberfeldy farm, named after her ancestor's village in Scotland. After high school she left the farm and headed to Hamilton where she attended McMaster University and attained her degree in Nursing. She was a nurse for several years and then met her future husband Walter. After marriage in Toronto they eventually settled in St. Catharines, ON. where they began a family that would grow to four. They would eventually move several times including Toronto, Ottawa and Carp, ON. Mom continued living for a while outside Carp after Walt's passing, before finally settling in Almonte, ON, a town she came to hold dear. Mom had many passions in life - a love of travel, indulging in many crafts (including needle point, at which she excelled) reading and completing large and complex puzzles. Her home and those of her children contain many pieces of beautiful works she created. Jean also loved her music. She enjoyed many symphony concerts in Almonte and loved attending concerts by the Atlantic Voices and Fumblin' Fingers, of which Brien and Celeste are members. One thing Jean loved to do was write down stories of her life and her children are blessed to have copies of these to read and preserve her memories. She will also be remembered for her beautiful poems.

Jeans other passion was her Siamese cats. When her first children were young she acquired her first pair, named Bing and Daisy. As years went on and her cat's lives ended, it would not be long before a new pair would be part of the household. Jean's greatest passion of all though was her family. She provided unconditional love to everyone in her family and guidance when asked. She will always be remembered for the wonderful holiday gatherings, made the more special by her great cooking and personal touch with decorations. On Easter of this year she felt so blessed to have all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all gathered under one roof. It was shortly after that her battle with illness began, which she fought bravely and with dignity to the end. Special thanks from her family to her doctors, all the CCAC staff, the personal care workers, the hospice support and the wonderful and caring staff at the Almonte Hospital, all who helped make her final days as comfortable and pain free as possible. Jean was the personification of beauty and grace and her loss will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved her.
