Jean Elinor Lemoine (nee McAuslane)

November 24, 1925 - May 11, 2023

Jean Elinor Lemoine, a remarkable woman of unwavering faith, transitioned to her eternal home on May 11, 2023, at the age of 97.  Jean was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1925, to Malcolm McAuslane of Scotland and Emma MacLeod of Dunvegan, ON.  Although Jean will be missed dearly by her family and friends, they are comforted knowing that she lived a life of purpose and touched the lives of many.

Jean’s love story with her husband, Rev. Lorne Lemoine, was one for the ages.  Together, they raised four loving children – Bonnie, Graeme, Laurie, and Gavin.  Jean worked as a secretary to the judges at the County Court House in Ottawa for many years, retiring at the age of 70.  But Jean’s true calling was her faith, which she lived out in her everyday life.  Her steadfastness and generous heart made her an inspiration to all who knew her.

As a longstanding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westboro, Jean was actively involved in her church and community.  Her devotion to service knew no bounds, and she volunteered in many organizations, including the Ottawa Civic Hospital, where she played the organ at their monthly Anglican chapel services.  She was also a member of The King’s Daughters and Sons (IOKDS) and the Westboro Recorded Music Society, where she shared her love of classical music.  Her deep interest in world events made her a fascinating conversationalist, and she enjoyed discussing politics, history, and different cultures.  She even ventured on many weekend getaways to The Chautauqua Institute in New York State for their renowned lecture series as well as joining numerous Elderhostel trips.  She loved to travel and took delight in all adventures, including her trips to Scotland, England, the Caribbean, and Vancouver.

Jean is predeceased in death by her husband Lorne, her son Graeme, and her brother Murray McAuslane.  Jean’s passing leaves a profound loss, but her legacy lives on through her children Bonnie (Bob), Laurie (Tom), and Gavin as well as her grandchildren Jennifer Kohoko (Eric), Grant Lemoine (Alli), Mary-Jean Harris, Carolyn Harris, Joshua Lemoine, Matthew Lemoine, Christopher Lemoine, and her great grandchildren Dakota Kohoko, Myingun Meekis, Makwa Kakegamick, Theoderek Lemoine, and Amelia Lemoine, as well as her great, great grandchildren Aryana Meekis, Samqwan Patles, Meegwun Meekis, and the late Céleste Lemoine.  She also leaves behind her niece and nephew Heather McAuslane (Hans) and Glenn McAuslane, and her cousins Janet MacLeod, Aileen Uhlen, Linda MacLeod, Cathie Kellerman, Donna Martin, and Donna Lankenau.

Jean’s sense of humour, warm wit, and boundless compassion made her a cherished friend and confidant to many.  Her passing will be felt deeply, but her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her.

May her soul rest in peace, and may her family and friends find comfort in the knowledge that she is now at peace in the arms of her loving Creator.
