Jean Alameda Drew

February 1, 1918 – September 28, 2021

Jean Alameda Drew (nee Payson) was born in 1918 at the dawn of the Spanish pandemic, and passed away at the venerable age of 103, on September 28, 2021, the last of her generation, having survived a second global pandemic.

Jean grew up in the Weymouth, NS home built by her UEL forebears.  She was understandably proud of her heritage and later served as Regent of her local IODE. For many years she worked in the Registrar’s office at Acadia University.

She and her husband (late John) raised their three children in Nova Scotia and followed them to Ottawa some twenty years ago.  She and John were avid bridge players, a hobby she enjoyed well into her twilight years.  Jean was a staunch supporter of the United Church in Nova Scotia, serving several years as the President of the Kentville UCW chapter.  In Ottawa, she found a new second home at Kanata Baptist Church.

Described by all as a ‘lovely lady’, she will be dearly missed by her loving  children, Dr. Margaret Deutsch, Doug (Christine), and Mary (Paul Mirsky); her grandchildren Stephen (Melissa), David (Charmaine Bene), Amanda (Kyrke Gaudreau), and Daniel; her great-grandchildren Ben, Cameron, Jamie, Jake and Ava; and many nephews, nieces, and extended family in Nova Scotia.  Many thanks to her “helpers” at Retire At Home (Affinity Health) and St. Elizabeth (SE Health) who were invaluable in enabling Jean to stay in her own home and who treated her with such kindness.  There will be a private family ceremony on Thanksgiving weekend.  If you wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences and tributes may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com.
