Jay Ellen Garrett

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Jay Ellen Garrett. Jay passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Tuesday March 4th, 2025, in Ottawa at the age of 72 years after a courageous year-long battle with blood cancer.

Jay is survived by her husband and best friend of 51 years, Don Garrett, her devoted children Steven Garrett (Luc Claveau) and Matthew Garrett (Amy), her grandchildren Marin and Flora Garrett and her siblings Rob Turner (Tammy) and Jan Turner. Predeceased by her parents Robert Turner and Joan Turner. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth O'Brien (Greg), Deborah Brooks (late Brian), her niece Leila, nephews Grady, Spencer, Conner, David, Michael, Geoffrey and Christopher, cousins and many friends.

Jay was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia. As part of a military family, she moved many times living in France, Germany, and Wisconsin before settling in Ottawa. It was there that she met and married her high school sweetheart Don and had 2 sons, Steven and Matthew. Jay had a long career in IT customer service management where her outgoing nature and genuine kindness shone through, growing many personal relationships. One of her proudest professional accomplishments was becoming one of the founders of their family business, Renu Spa, where she became the face of Renu and was instrumental in the business' success and growth. In retirement, Jay enjoyed spending her time painting, gardening, and most of all, playing, boating, swimming, and sleepovers with her granddaughters.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the General Hospital, who helped Jay navigate her many appointments and cancer treatments. We will be forever grateful for the extra time you gave us. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors that gave Jay comfort in her final days and helped her transition gracefully.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes, Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Sunday March 16th, 2025, from 12pm to 3pm. Please join the family for Words of Remembrance at 12:30pm followed by refreshments.
