Hall, Janet Elizabeth (nee Phillips)
(formerly of Statistics Canada)
It is with great sadness that we announce Janet’s passing, following a long battle with colon cancer. She slipped away from us on Sunday afternoon, February 22, in her own home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife and best friend to her husband Stephen, the much-loved mother of Kevin (Meredith), Ronald (Jessica), and Carolyn, and the adored "Nana" to Lily. She was predeceased by her parents Walton and Lillian (Southin), and is survived by her brothers Lorne (the late Marion) and Keith (Wendy). Janet was a kind and thoughtful person who made life enjoyable for all of those around her. She grew up in Ottawa, attending Fisher Park high school and then Carleton University before working as a survey methodologist at Statistics Canada until the birth of Ronald in 1984. After that she concentrated on the thing that she did best - being a wonderful mother to her children. She also enjoyed curling in the winter and life at the cottage in the summer, but in all things she put her family first. She showed incredible inner strength and determination in her battle with cancer, and never a sign of self-pity. She will be missed terribly. Visitation will occur on Friday, February 27 from 1-3 pm and again from 6-8 pm at the Westboro Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road, at Roosevelt Ave., Ottawa. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 28 at 11 am, at the same location in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
