With much sadness we announce the death of Elroy.  Born in Ottawa November 4, 1930 to the late  James McCooeye and Florence (nee Foley).  Raised and resided in Stittsville from 1935 to September 7, 2019.  Married his loving wife Ann (nee Stevenson) in 1953 (66 years).  Proud and dear father of Amy McEwing (Dave), Tracy Hindle (Ralph) of Calgary, and Tim McCooeye (Brenda Edey).  Loving Grandpaw of Mandy Hindle of Toronto, Crystal McEwing (Ron Barrett), Emily Davis (Jon), Nicholas McEwing (Amanda), Aiden McCooeye and Conall McCooeye, and Great Grandpaw of Ace Tremblay.  Predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.  Survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters.  In-laws, nieces, nephews of the McCooeye and Stevenson families as well as friends, former coworkers and acquaintances of long ago and present days will remember Elroy as a hard worker and his always cheerful ways.  Plumber at NRC Uplands for 32 years where he retired from.  Stittsville Volunteer Fireman from 1955 and served at Stittsville Station as Chief from 1975 – 1989, then retired.  Charter member of Stittsville Lions Club and also Goulbourn Lawn Bowling Club where he was the greenskeeper.  Little League Baseball Coach in the 1960’s.  Cub Scout Leader in the 1970’s.  Busy man of many talents always cheerfully willing to help out neighbours, friends or family and also great fun to dance and party with.  Bowling, curling in Richmond, shuffleboard, and square dancing were happy retirement days.  A fall in November 2018 led to 10 months of hospital stays with many complications.  He was a good man and will be loved in our hearts forever.  Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10 to 11 am at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 2 Mulkins St., at Stittsville Main St. followed by a service at 11 am.  Reception in the church hall will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated.  Tributes, condolences and donations may be made to www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
