Passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on November 1, 2014. Predeceased by his loving wife Gisèle, brother Léopold, S.J., and sister Monique. Jacques was father to Michel (Kathy), Dominique and Claude and grandfather to Alyssa, Éric, Talia, Nicholas, Loïc and Zoé. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Scientist, physicist and astronomer, he was passionate about the stars and dedicated much of his career to the development of telescopes. He pursued his passion for science at the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, and then the Université de Montréal where he obtained a Masters degree in optics. He began his career as an Optical Engineer for Bausch and Lomb (Rochester), and continued it as an Astronomer at the Dominion Observatory (Ottawa) and finally as a Physicist in the seismic research program of Energy Mines and Resources. He was one of the first Canadians to design and build a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, one of which is in the collection of the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Family and friends will be received at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Baseline Rd. and Bayshore Dr.) on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by a reception until 4:00 p.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to his alma mater, the Université de Montréal (www.bdrd.umontreal.ca).
