Jacoba Berendina Felicia (Codien) Agterberg,
née Zwaardemaker
October 20, 1935 – October 18, 2015
Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Codien died peacefully at home after a long struggle with cancer. Beloved wife and best friend of Frederik (Frits) Agterberg, mother of Daniel (Swati), Timothy, Franklin (Geri) and Marko; proud Oma of Naomi, Silvana, Joshua, Sita, Kieran, Alder and Juniper. Predeceased by sisters Tillemijn and Goke, she will be missed by brother-in-law Jan, nephew Rolf (Gelske), nieces Marjolijne (Anouar), Winnie (Arjen), Carlien (Bart-Joost), Quinta (Rob), and their families. She is fondly remembered by her numerous friends. After an active life in Holland, which included being the goalie of the first class field hockey team SCHC, Codien immigrated to Canada in 1965 shortly after her wedding. She provided a home for Frits, her four sons and the two oldest granddaughters. During the last 20 years, she has travelled extensively with Frits to many different countries including six long trips to China where she made numerous friends as well. Descended from a family of doctors and medical research scientists, Codien has donated her body to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. As she had wished, a memorial get-together to celebrate her life was held with family and friends while she was still alive. She loved nature, gardening, cooking and animals. In lieu of flowers, donations to the YM/YWCA of the National Capital Region www.ymcaywca.ca or to the Ottawa Humane Society www.ottawahumane.ca would be appreciated.
