Jack Thomson Hastie

December 7, 1944 – August 24, 2021

Peacefully at home with loved ones by his side.

Survived by his wife Beryl, and his daughters Lorraine (Jim) & Samantha (Martin). Jack will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Jesse, Danielle & Jack, his sister Sandra (Terry), and many nieces and nephews in Ottawa and in England. Jack is now reunited with his late son Steven and his late brother Billy.

Jack was born in Ayr, Scotland, first born child of his late parents, James & Robina Hastie. In his early teens, his family moved to London, England where he met the love of his life Beryl. Jack & Beryl were married at St. Mary’s Church, England on October 16, 1965. Jack & Beryl’s passion to provide a greater life for their children brought them to Canada in 1970 to raise their family. In the late 80’s, Jack fulfilled his dream of building a home for his family in Richmond.

Jack was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed fixing and building motorcycles, import cars, and racing engines. Jack spent many years drag car racing at SANAIR, stock car racing at Capital City Speedway and go-kart racing all over North America. Over the years, Jack & Steven’s trophy collection grew to more than fill a room!

Jack will be remembered for his quick-witted humour and his comical personality. He really enjoyed playing games. Jack was a fierce competitor, whether it was racing, darts, poker, euchre, Wizard or ANY other game that he could beat you at!

A proud man of strong character and a huge heart, Jack enjoyed time with his friends and loved them truly. When you think of Jack, celebrate the fond memories that you had with him and remember that life is short, and it should be lived to the fullest.

Jack will be laid to rest with his cherished son Steven at a private family gathering at St. Johns Anglican cemetery in Richmond.  A celebration of life to follow in the fall.

The family requests that those wishing to make a memorial donation in Jack’s honour, that they be made to Bayfield Manor in Kemptville, where Jack’s beloved wife Beryl resides. Tributes, condolences, or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
