With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Isabel Thompson on August 12, 2024, at the age of 78. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Isabel brought laughter, kindness, and love to everyone she met.
Born on February 21, 1946, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Isabel remained a true Maritimer at heart despite living in Ottawa since she was a young teen. Her spirit, faith, and generosity touched many lives, making everyone feel like family, whether they were neighbors, church members, or strangers.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Gary, Isabel is survived by her daughters Kim (Gerry) and Tammy (Bruce), her grandsons Jaden and Leeland, her sister Sharon, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who were like family to her.
As a mother, Isabel was nothing short of extraordinary. She raised her children with love, adventure and a healthy dose of humour. She taught the importance of kindness, resilience, service to others and the joy of a good laugh. Her love for her family was boundless, and she took great pride in every achievement, big or small. She found her greatest joy in being a grandmother and she was a profoundly magical presence and guiding force in her grandsons’ young lives.
Isabel was a pillar of the Richmond community, dedicating her life to serving others through volunteering, fundraising, and organizing events for her beloved church, community clubs, kids' sports, and the local food bank which she helped establish many years ago. Her door was always open, and her heart was even wider.
Visitation will be held at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Monday, August 19th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of Isabel's life will take place at Barrhaven United Church, 3013 Jockvale Rd., Nepean on Tuesday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m., with refreshments to follow.
