Passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017, after having a very happy visit with family the evening before. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family, and the quiet order of life. He enjoyed meeting people and discussing current events. Born April 15, 1924 in Riceville, Ontario, he was raised in a farming family that taught the value of hard work and the virtue of fair play. Beloved husband of the late Irene Reid. Loving father of Nairn (Molly), Robert (Sandi) and Clyde and daughter in law Joan Reid. Cherished grandfather of Devon (Jennifer Puccini), Dawn (Corey Stevenson), Rebecca (James Smith) and Amanda Reid (Keith Coupal). Loving great grandfather of Kathleen, Connor, Wyatt, Alora, Scarlett, Olivia, Abigail and Isabella. He is survived by his siblings Ruby Proudfoot, Gordon, Joan McHugh and sister in law Cleta Reid as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his siblings, Sherwood, Hilton, Mansil, Eunice Hill, Lorne and Jean Harrison. Honorary past Grand Senior Warden, Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario A.F. & A.M. Past Master and life member of Plantagenet Lodge #186, current member of Temple Lodge #665, long time member of Westboro United Church and current member of City View United Church. He owned and operated Cummings and Reid Fuels for many years. The family would like to thank the staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for the excellent care provided. The family will receive friends at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (at Bayshore Drive) on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Capital Memorial Gardens.
