Hilda Brinton

June 6, 1919 — June 29, 2016

Hilda Sleater Dobson neé Brinton

1919-2016

Peacefully, surrounded by family on June 29th, 2016 at the Lynwood Park Lodge in her 98th year. Cherished mother of Jennifer (Bob), Angela (Dwight), and Dave (Carolyne). Doting granny to Ben, Derek, Jessica, Jacob, Fiona, and Kyra. Predeceased by husband Alex, and sisters Ethel and Mary. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, daughter of Rev. Jacob Brinton, who was the curate of the Anglican Cathedral of St. John. She trained in England as a dancer and after returned to St. John's she taught Physical Training for many years at Bishop Spencer School. Following the death of her parents she taught ballet at the Betty Oliphant Dance School in Toronto. She married Alex in 1957 after which they began what we would now call a team ministry in a number of Anglican churches in the Ottawa Valley, with Hilda playing the organ and directing the choir while Alex handled the other spiritual needs of the congregations. She had a lifelong passion for dance, music, and children. She loved to provide hospitality, especially in difficult times, always encouraging others to eat and have a good rest. May she now rest peacefully with God. There will be a visitation beginning at 2 pm followed by a funeral service at 3pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kanata (20 Young Road) on Saturday, July 2nd.
