After a very brief stay at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, Helene passed away on December 27, 2013 at age 61. Helene will be greatly missed by suo marito Frank Kevins, her mother Olga, sister Linda Brazeau (Robert), and brother Richard (Elizabeth Cook). Predeceased by her father Roland. Helene’s passions were the extremes of relaxation and exhilaration – knitting and riding motorcycles; she enjoyed both endeavours with wide circles of fellow enthusiasts. Helene had a thirty-six year career with the public service, retiring from Statistics Canada in 2007. Retirement afforded her time to volunteer with the Creative Craft Circle of the Ottawa Humane Society Auxiliary, where she used her skills to help raise funds in support of the animals. As a twenty year member of the Ottawa Safety Council, Helene shared her knowledge and love of motorcycling as a volunteer instructor and later as a member of the board of directors. We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Elizabeth Bruyere for their care and comfort over those few days. Thanks also to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center, and a special note of thanks to nurse Lorraine Cake and to Doctor Martin Chasen; as the wisest of Helene’s “Three Wise Men”, his care and counsel helped Helene enjoy quality of life to the very end. According to Helene’s wishes there will be no visitation or services, however we will have a celebration of Helene’s life at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Rd. on Sunday, January 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Humane Society, animal shelter, or a charity of your choice.
