Helen Edith Wilson Peach
Helen died in her sleep at the Perley-Rideau Health Centre on Thursday, Dec 28, 2017 at the age of 95. Her loss is deeply felt by the four children, Earle, Peach, Niela and Evelyn, for whom she became a caring parent when she married widowed Earle Peach, and by her three grandchildren, Clea, Matthew, and Isabelle, and great-granddaughter, Mirah. Helen grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Toronto where her parents Edith Leverett and Tom Wilson, both immigrants from the UK, had settled. She attended a two room school with her sister Audrey, who now lives in Kingston, and her brothers, Jack, Alan, Bill and Andy, now deceased. She leaves many nieces and nephews who remember fondly a sophisticated traveler and a creator of beautiful homes. Helen was an adventurous person, living abroad and working for UNESCO in Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East for much of her postwar (she served as a WREN) career. She was a Town Planner who continued her interest in urban life by active involvement in the Historical Associations of Aylmer, P.Q. and Brockville. She dabbled in "antiquing", selling Persian rugs, Chinese china and antique letter-boxes at shows around Eastern Ontario. She was a physically-active, vibrant person, skiing until her early 80's. She had a great sense of humour, a love of classical music, and superior cooking skills. All who have known her well will remember her with warmth and gratitude. A gathering in her honour will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 3 p.m. at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd, Ottawa.
