Helen Parr

The family of Helen Parr, (née Gordon) of Ottawa is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Sept 10, 2024 at the age of 81 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her stepchildren: Mike Parr (Guy Brassard) and Geoff Parr (Bonnie Chambers); grandchildren: Dylan, and Valerie Parr; brother, Robert Gordon; sisters Elizabeth McEachern and Mary Jensen as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Parr; sister Marg Meyers, and her parents: Murray and Helen Gordon.

Helen was born in and grew up in Lindsay, Ontario. After graduating from the Nursing School of the Toronto General Hospital she went on to have a varied career, caring for the public in many different locations across Canada. She retired after numerous years of service at the Ottawa Civic and later, the Ottawa Hospitals. She worked for many years in the Emergency Department, and later in the Parkdale Clinic, working with dermatology patients. She also found time to take on valuable work with the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification program. Helen spent much of her retirement volunteering in English language tutoring, working with immigrant women for the English Language Tutoring Ottawa Community organization. She also volunteered at the Beaverbrook Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.

Helen was an example of strength, dedication, compassion, good humour and a steady work ethic in every part of her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Canada in her memory.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd) on Tuesday, September 24th at 10 a.m., service will be held in the chapel at noon. Reception to follow. Interment will be held at St. Clare's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Dwyer Hill.
