Helen Danks

We are heartbroken to share the loss of our beloved mother and grandma, Helen, who passed away peacefully surrounded by love. 

Helen will be dearly missed by her children Mario and Juanita, and her grand children Avery and Sean.

Leaving her home in Scotland in 1969, Helen came to Canada looking to build a bright future with her husband Bill and wee bairn Mario. Four years later they welcomed wee Juanita. 

Mario and Juanita fondly remember their mom imparting her Scottish heritage to them, making certain to teach them various Scottish words and phrases like "coo," "keekers," "yer face in parsley," "shush yer wheesht," and "scunner drawers".

Always with a smile, and often with a song, she worked as a retail sales associate providing over thirty years of exceptional customer service. 

Helen loved to spend her time having fun with family and friends. She enjoyed playing games and cards, dancing, listening to music and road trips with the top down, sun warming her face, music loud, and wind in her hair. Helen was also a nature lover and could often be found at the Sarsaparilla or Jack Pine trails feeding the chickadees, blue jays, cardinals and nuthatches, as well as the chipmunks and squirrels.

The family would like to thank the incredible team at Garden Terrace for their compassion, care and dedication. A special, heartfelt thank you to Nurse Brenda, for your kindness and support, it has meant the world to us.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 9th, from 1-3 pm at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel at 3440 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario. All friends and family are welcome to join us in remembering Helen and sharing stories of her wonderful life. We would love for you to share your memories of our dear Mom/Grandma.
